Sex and the City is back!

February 08, 2010 By: veniceblogger Category: Venice

The four girls from “Sex and the City” are back with a second film. It’s been two years since Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon have made us dream and laugh on the big screen, but these women of the 21st century still continue to make our dreams come true and we now want to know what has happened since the first film.

sex-and-the-city-2

Though the first movie was heavily criticized, the spectators from around the world could identify with their follies and concerns; it’s also a great opportunity for men to discover the feminine paranoia. Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda would be our colleagues, friends and the various women who are within our body and mind. They also seem to be able to get inside the men’s minds. Again, these girls are a clear reflection of what people live today: travelling, internal conflicts, the impact of the crisis … and much more.

The American comedies usually tend to be on the extreme side because everything there is huge, from the popcorn boxes, to the skyscrapers and the human passions. Many people think that “Sex and the City 1″ was a long, boring, superficial and oppressive movie. The stories of friendships, fun, beauty, sexuality, fashion, fairy tales and princess are very trite. But, is our everyday life far away from these issues that they face in the movie? Can we consider these four creatures with high heels as an incarnation of our own dilemmas, but taken to an extreme?

The trailer begins announcing that in two years many more things than your imagination can think of may have occurred. It is a message to future viewers: life is full of surprises – good or bad! Who can resist the temptation of the comedy and dramatic situations of these four disturbed women?

The release date is May 27th in Germany, on 28th May in the U.S., on June 2nd in France, and on 4th June in Spain and Italy…

And if Carrie’s hysteric crisis in the movie is all too much, why not take some time out and travel to a glamorous city like Venice. Invite your partner for a stay in the Italian city and awake the love and the passion. You will find your perfect love nest in Apartments in Venice.

Are the Spice Girls almost buried?

February 02, 2010 By: veniceblogger Category: Venice

The five symbols of British girl power, the Spice Girls, went from being famous teen pinups to mothers who’ve come together again to restore hope to the masses and demonstrate the commercial power of the Spice Girls. These girls sold 75 million records, produced a film in 1997, and joined together again for a world tour in 2008 and right now they are lending their songs to a musical. The creator of Mamma Mia!, Judy Craymer, announced that within two years a musical will come out in which their most popular songs will appear under the title of Viva Forever.

Spice Girls

In the 90s, Posh, Sporty, Ginger, Baby and Scary Spice sang Wannabe, Say you’ll be there or Spice up your life with dynamism, style and feminine strength. They were the muses of the English pop scene that made many people dance. Each represents a different personality, so the teenagers identified with one of them. The Spice Girls were heard on all the radios around the world for many years and they become a legend: today, they don’t sing on the big stages, but at home their audience is their young children.

When Geri left the band in 1998 things began to take a new direction. In 2001, they all decide to continue with their solo careers : Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) is mother of three children, wife of the famous Milan footballer David Beckham, model and fashion designer of her own brand dvb (David Victoria Beckham). In 2007, she received two English awards from the Glamour Magazines : Woman of the Year and the Businesswoman of the year.

Melanie Brown (Scary Spice) is perhaps the one that has most changed in appearance. She left her African hair style and sporty clothing to be sexier than ever. She participated in several television programs and films and she wrote her biography, called “Catch a Fire”. In 1999 she was the first of the Spice Girls to have a baby and in 2007 she had another baby – son of Eddie Murphy, but she has changed her partners several times during those years. Geri Halliwell left the platforms and the red hair to be blonde and participate in campaigns to help the women in Nepal- She also became Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations.

Speaking of babies, Melanie Chisholm (the Sporty Spice) gave birth to her daughter Scarlet in 2009 and Baby Spice, Emma Bunton, is no longer a “girl” – she was the youngest one, and she had her own baby in 2007. Now the Spice Girls are not as hot as before, but mature savvy women. Their feminist slogan was, however, very critizised: the media said that trying to defend the independent and liberated woman singing songs like that had no sense. More than Girl Power, many people just saw commercial music. And now they will be back with this musical tribute by Judy Craymer and of course their fans will absolutely love it !

Do you want to discover another type of hypnotic effect ? Travel to Venice, a romantic city perfect for you and your partner. Do as the Spice Girls did, give strength to love! Rent Apartments in Venice and enjoy the charms of this beautiful city.

Minimalism, painting silence

January 26, 2010 By: veniceblogger Category: Venice

In the space of 15 years, American art has moved from Pop Art through Abstract Expressionism and has reached the extreme simplification with Minimalism. It is during the decade of the 60s when this abstract art trend develops – characterized by the complete elimination of any human representation.

Minimalismus

The evolution of art is tremendous: during the Renaissance they could spend months painting the face of an angel; the Impressionists were concerned about the visual impressions, the light and the colour; the Surrealists worried about the unconscious and the Abstracts about the colour. Over the years, the art has become “ordinary”: it concerns itself with everyday life, about the insignificant things and about spiritually.

The dematerialization of art – according to Lucy Lippard and John Chandler, functions as the analysis of the changes that characterize the contemporary art. The artists focus on the disappearance of the object, in favour of the concept. Therefore, art is an idea.

It has often spoken about the secrecy of abstract art, because it is an art that does not represent anything recognizable, but refers to a human emotion or an investigation into the art itself.

Ad Reinhardt is considered the father of the minimal and the conceptual art. His work begins with geometric compositions and works in different shades of the same colour. His paintings were called “black” because they seemed to be almost black monochrome fabrics. The poetry of these works lies in a search of the absolute and of the transcendental dimension of the colour.

Another reductionist artist like Carl Andre, Dan Flavin, Donald Judd, Sol LeWitt and Robert Morris were interested in lines and volumes from the standpoint of the perception. In the work of Dan Flavin, the protagonist is light: he works with standard fluorescent lights and industrial lights.

In general, they do not give titles to their works because they believe that they determine the interpretation of the spectators. They prefer that the public perceive and interpret the work themselves.

If all this seems a bit too clinical and you are passionate about the human forms and the architectural mastery, we recommend you to travel to Venice, Italy. Why not rent apartments in Venice, and make your stay a fantastic one.

Venice Carnival 2010

January 19, 2010 By: veniceblogger Category: Venice

The Venice Carnival is one of the most famous celebrations, not only in Italy but worldwide. This pagan festival dates back to the fifteenth century, but the tradition began to be held in the early fourteenth. During these early years of the carnival the Venetian masks could be used only at night, but over time the carnival attracted many people from across Europe, including people of the royalty, who came to the city of canals and spent large fortunes.

Venice-Carnival-2010

The Venetian Carnival has nothing to do with other carnival celebrations, such as the carnivals of Brazil, Cadiz or the Canary Islands. This is an elegant and distinguished party where people dress up with beautiful masks and costumes and stroll throughout the streets in impromptu parades. Everything seems as if it were out of a Canaletto painting, where the canals, the gondolas, and the handsome strollers give the city a fairytale aspect.

The Venice Carnival is not only noted for its elegance but for its distinction, too. Throughout the whole city many parties, dances and private events are held – some of the entrance fees cost around € 500.

This year the carnival will be held from the 6th to the 16th February and is entitled “Sensation: 6 sense for 6 sestieri” which will focus on the senses. On the streets there is a festive and special atmosphere, and the tourists and the locals can enjoy the carnival groups, known as “Compagnie della Calza”. People can also enjoy other festivals such as the Feast of Mary, the historical parades or the Drag Queen show in the iconic Piazza San Marco.

The most magical night of the carnival is held at the Pisani Moretta Palace under by candlelight overlooking the Grand Canal. This palace is an Italian gem located in the heart of the city whose interior is covered with beautiful frescos from the eighteenth century. There the prestigious masquerade ball, the “Mascheranda” is held. Everything is set in the seventeenth century. At first, a gala dinner is served, lit by hundreds of candles, with live instrumental music, dancers, and the best actors of the Commedia dell’Arte and Casanova foundations, among others. The night is full of surprises and the party continues until the early morning.

Other important events are the children’s mask contest in San Marco, the medieval music concerts of the seventeenth century in the Campo San Barnaba, or the traditional bathing on the beach of the Ibernisti on the Island of Lido.

Are you going to miss it? The Venice Carnival is one of those parties to which you should assist at least once in a lifetime. To find affordable and comfortable accommodation, rent Venice apartments and become the king or queen of the masquerade ball.

Which is your Worst Mania?

January 13, 2010 By: veniceblogger Category: Venice

It may go unnoticed, but you may have a mania that you repeat every day, and even more if you’re under great anxiety, like biting your nails or making noises with your mouth: this is something sudden, rapid and continuous, which has no particular purpose. A person that suffers from manias does not know that he has it and one of the most troubling things is how much it can affect his social or personal life. Do you have a type of mania?

There are as many manias as people, but they can be classified by types: there are some related to order, others which have to do with cleaning, with scruples or with health or safety. There are sound and gesture manias, and also temporary or chronic ones.

Having a tidy house is not uncommon, but it is worrying when the person requires that the objects are placed in a certain place or way, symmetrical and aligned. It also may be a problem when the person is very rigid with timeliness.

Visiting the doctor because one is afraid to be sick or going to the pharmacy for any symptom is a form of mild hypochondria. If this reaches extremes, that may be a mania. Other manias are the fear of shaking hands with another person, the fear of being contaminated or the need to wash ones hands continuously.

The most popular manias are based on the repetition of an observation: Have I closed the door of the car? Have I closed all the windows? Have I turned off the lights? If you need to check again and again that everything is ok, you may have a serious mania or obsessive compulsive disorder.

Daily life can become a nightmare for some people. To know if you have a compulsive disorder personality, pay attention to these striking symptoms: if you have a serious preoccupation for every single detail, if you need to write a list for everything you do or if you are such an extreme perfectionist that you lose the final goal of your activities. The excessive perfectionism, an absolute dedication to work that excludes social relationships and leisure, inflexibility and the moral scrupulousness may lead you to a compulsive disorder personality. Other signs include the inability to throw useless and worthless sentimental objects, saving money to cope with future disasters, or a rigid and stubborn character.

The origin of these disorders is often identified by anxiety, fear, stress, frustration, boredom or depression. It usually occurs during childhood, because a person suffered a traumatic event like the death of a loved one or family member or a strong self-esteem complex. The mania usually disappears when sleeping.

If you feel too nervous, try to do some relaxing activities and talk about your concerns with people close to you or with a professional. We also recommend a trip to recharge your batteries and to clear your mind. Venice is the perfect city! Rent Apartments in Venice, they are cheap and comfortable. . Forget about your worries and manias and just focus on the trip.

Making Love – how much time do we need?

December 09, 2009 By: veniceblogger Category: Venice

Whether it’s a full erotic body massage with romantic music and candle light or just pulling your trousers down for a quickie and having a good time: having good sex doesn’t always depend on the time you dedicate to it. Current studies have revealed that sex in itself does not need to last a long time to be satisfactory. While three minutes is very short, half an hour may be too long. But then, how much time is necessary to have great sex?

couple-in-bed

Let’s be honest! We have all experienced at least once time in our life this situation: you’re in bed with your partner, and you have already had an orgasm and you’re hoping that he or she has too. Instead of dedicating your full attention to him or her, you think about the shopping list or the league table… It sounds really disappointing, but many couples experience this kind of problem. Sex therapists and American scientists have shown that perfect sex lasts from three to thirteen minutes. Eric Corty, psychology professor at the Bernhard College in Pennsylvania, conducted a survey along with some sex therapists of the American Association of Sex Therapy and Research and has revealed some interesting results. The survey gave us some important information about the sexual behaviour of their customers. These are their conclusions: a sexual act of two minutes is definitely too short, three to seven minutes is enough, from seven to thirteen minutes is the desirable, but thirty minutes is too long. You have to add some extra minutes for foreplay as it is a really important part of the entire sexual act.

Each country has a different average concerning the length of time sex should last: while the German couples last an average of 20 minutes, the Mexicans are happy with 23 minutes and the Indonesians with 15 minutes. As for favourite sexual positions, the Hungarians are, with eight positions, the most innovative while the rest of the world averages around three favourite positions, of which the missionary and the cowboy are the most usual. The Americans and the Australians occupy, with only two favourite positions, the last place on the list.

But what really counts is the creativity, confidence and passion. If all these components are present, there will be no problems in bed. After a certain time in a relationship the spark can disappear, but you just have to help it along with a bit of imagination. What about some romantic days in the Italian city of love? Rent the best apartments in Venice and discover the special charm of this city.

Who were you in a former life?

December 01, 2009 By: veniceblogger Category: Venice

Most religions believe in a possible reincarnation after death. This topic has always attracted people’s interest. Even atheists or agnostics reflect on this idea, maybe because of the fear towards death and the desire for enjoying the life and world forever. People just feel better believing in life after death. Nowadays there also exist different web pages that talk about this issue. Even the famous social network Facebook couldn’t escape from it and offers its users various personality tests, like for example “Who were you in your former life?” The results can sometimes be very surprising as well as demoralizing! Therefore, you could have been a stone, a dog or even a captain of a ship.

reincarnation

The term “reincarnation” stands for the transmigration of souls after death. That means that the spirit and soul of a dead person leaves its body and passes to another physical form. In ancient Egypt they already believed in reincarnation which is part of many different religions like Hinduism or Buddhism. The rebirth is also related to the so called “Karma”, hence the reincarnation is influenced by our behaviour and actions in our former life. If you behaved well, you will be a superior person in your second life, if not, you will be inferior. The aim is to reach the pure soul, so that a further reincarnation won’t be necessary anymore.

Although Christianity, Judaism and Islam don’t share the belief of reincarnation of humans, there have been many movements during history who did accept this idea. However it’s certainly known that the resurrection and not the reincarnation is the dogma of the catholic and orthodox church.

It seems that almost everyone, even those without religion, believes in another life. Furthermore, there are a lot of people that think they have already lived a certain situation before or déjà vu. Scientists and psychologists claim that we experience those senses due to brain activity, dreams and the innate imagination of human beings.

Why not just enjoy the present, the here and now. Discovering new worlds and countries is the best thing for enjoying life to the full. Choose a destiny full of history and secrets: rent the best apartments in Venice. You won’t be disappointed.

Jealousy – a relationship killer or just a healthy instinct?

November 20, 2009 By: veniceblogger Category: Venice

Rummaging through handbags looking for possible signs, searching for secret messages in the mobile, examining jacket pockets or even the observation of the ’target object’. Don’t worry; we aren’t talking about a detective story. We have all been there; jealousy. Whether it is in a healthy way or in a more exaggerated form, jealousy can be a real relationship killer. Healthy human instinct or just sick obsession, what do you think?

jealousy

“Where have you been?” “Why are you so late?” “This business dinner has taken much longer, hasn’t it?” That’s just a little extract of the typical questions of the jealous partner, who is sitting there on the couch, with his/her eyes wide open. Of course, the classical reactions are not far behind: passionate battles of words, arguments, mental wounds, tears, possible reconciliations etc. Whether man or woman, just everyone fears that his or her partner will be unfaithful or that he or she will even fall in love with someone else. Of course, those fears are absolutely comprehensible, but a real ‘no no’ is without any doubt the exaggerated petty jealousies we may have. On the other hand, scientists and psychologists think that this phenomenon is a logical consequence of evolution.

Psychologists of the University of Bielefeld (Germany) have revealed that the reasons of jealousy vary among the genders. While women are more afraid that their partner might be getting feelings for another woman, men’s fears are more to do with their women having sex with other people. Science goes back to specific gender roles developed during history and interesting studies have shown us that concerning a woman’s reaction, the female gender is less sensitive about sexual unfaithfulness than the famous “emotional unfaithfulness”. From an evolutionary point of view the reason for this behavior could be that in former times faithfulness was so important for men because they feared dedicating energy and attention to their offspring which perhaps wasn’t really their own. As you can see, unconscious fears play an important part in our everyday life.

However, a healthy jealousy is one of the most important parts of a good relationship. Love without jealousy is practical impossible, because it shows us that we love and value our partner. But what you shouldn’t do is exaggerate or invent some stories. You should have enough trust in your loved one for avoiding extreme jealous scenes. Just remember: “Jealousy is a passion seeking zealously what causes suffering

Treasure hunt in Venice

November 09, 2009 By: veniceblogger Category: Venice

What is a fun holiday with friends without some old fashion games? Whether it is just a weekend trip or a special occasion (25th Birthday, bachelor party…) you will literally die laughing. You need one or two people organizing, they can run with the groups to take funny photos of them or just relax on a terrace with an ice-cream. We are going on a scavenger hunt in the middle of Venice!

bocca-di-leone-venice

How you adapt this game is completely up to you, we will just give you the basics and some cool ideas. Divide your friends into two teams. The teams will have to collect objects and information; they will get 3 points per object, 5 points for every piece of correct information and minus 2 points for any wrong object / info. The losers will pay the drinks tonight! You hand both teams a piece of paper with the items that they have to gather. There is only one rule: they cannot spend money.

A good starting and ending point is the Piazza San Marco. The centre of Venice is pretty compact, so you can lead them to the important places. Here are some ideas of how to lure them to the main sights:

Peggy Guggenheim museum: She was buried next to her twelve dogs. Name 5 of them. (Emily, Baby, Gypsy, Hong Kong, Cappuccino for example)
Saint Mark’s Basilica: How many bronze horses do you see? (4)
Campo Santa Margherita: collect 5 paper napkins, each with a different restaurant name or logo.
• Take a photo of someone in your group with a Venetian mask.
• What is special about the Chiesa di San Giacomo di Rialto? (It is the oldest church in Venice)
Rialto Bridge: Obtain a souvenir related to the rialto bridge. Remember, you cannot spend money, so be creative!
Doge’s Palace: What is the Bocca Di Leone? Take a photo of the inscription (see photo).
Basílica di Santa Maria Della Salute: which famous artist contributed a self portrait in the Great Sacristy? (The answer is Tintoretto, entrance to the church is for free)
• Ca’ Rezzonico: Get a museum guide in Italian.

Other assignments can include obtaining a used museum ticket, to take a photo in a gondola, to collect five pigeon feathers on St. Mark’s square, get an autograph of a tourist from London or to take a photo of a vaporetti.

Planning a trip to Venice with your friends? This is a unique and fun way to discover the city and meet new people. And why not rent an apartment in Venice, for an affordable stay and more flexibility.
